11 Tips to Use Lemon Juice for Beautiful Skin and More.
Author: Adonia Dennis
Lemon juice is increasingly becoming popular among DIY homemade skin treatment routines, thanks to its wide range of many beauty healthy benefits. It has become a major ingredient in many cosmetic products that are naturally biased. While some of the skin benefits of lemon juice have been scientifically proven, other claims about lemon juice are still in their experimental phases, and this fluid may not work equally for every skin type. It is, therefore, important to contact your dermatologist before trying, especially if you have a sensitive skin type. Here are some beauty tips you should try with lemon juice.
1. Skin Brightening:
Lemon juice is loaded with citric acid and vitamin C, which are essential in skin brightening and lightening if used regularly. Vitamin C has high antioxidant properties that help in the fight against free radicals responsible for cell damage. In addition, vitamin C promotes production of collagen and elastin, the skin connective tissues, which Marina Peredo, M.D., a dermatologist, says can help diminish age spots, dark spots, tanning, dull complexion and other skin blemishes. Always wear a sunscreen after using lemon juice because this citrus fruit can make your skin more sensitive to harmful rays of the sun.
2. Exfoliating Lips:
Exfoliating your lips occasionally helps in the removal of dead cells and dried skin. To exfoliate your lips, apply lemon juice before heading to bed and leave it overnight. Wash off the lemon juice upon waking up the next morning. However, dermatologist Gary Goldfaden, M.D., cautions against using lemon juice for exfoliating if you have chapped lips with any cuts as it can cause irritation or inflammation.
3. Elbow and Knee Bleaching:
The skin on your knees and elbows may appear darker than other body parts. Patrice Coleman, the founder of DaBlot Beauty, says that rubbing with a half slice of lemon fruit can significantly improve their appearance instantly.
4. Clarifying Moisturizer:
When combined with natural oils, lemon juice works as a great moisturizer to keep your skin supple and soft. You can add a few drop of lemon juice to coconut water or olive oil and slather the mixture on your skin for added moisturizing.
5. Treat Blackheads:
If you have oily skin that is prone to acne, blackheads are inevitable after the zits break open and heal. Lemon juice has antibacterial properties that can speed up acne treatment. Simply take a slice of lemon and squeeze the juice into your skin. This will help to diminish the appearance of blackhead and other blemishes on your skin within a short duration.
6. Whitening Teeth:
There are many factors that cause staining of teeth, but mixing lemon juice with baking powder and brushing it directly on your teeth can make them whiter. Do not forget to rinse with water once you are done. Why should you make that trip to your dentist.
7. Canker Sore Treatment:
Sturm also says that mixing a few drops of lemon with green tea essential oil makes an excellent solution for speeding up the recovery of canker sores.
8. Nail Strengthening:
If you frequent salon to get manicures, you should consider preparing your own concoction using olive oil and lemon juice to strengthen your nails. Soak your nails in the mixture to make them soft if they are dry and brittle. When done regularly, it will also help to fix nails that have been stained.
9. Cleansing Wipes:
Cleansing is very crucial in every skincare treatment routine. To deeply cleanse your skin, mix a few drops of lemon juice and tea tree essential oil with distilled water. According to Becky Sturm, the founder of StormSister Spatique, this mixture when applied with cotton pads is an effective cleansing wipe for a skin with issues.
10. Hair Lightening:
When your hair becomes exposed to sunlight, its color may fade over time. Luckily, you can lighten your hair using lemon juice, which also fights dandruff and dry scalp.
11. Eliminate Shine:
Lemon juice is acidic in nature, and citric acid is helpful in dissolving natural oils that cause shine. You can add a few drops of lemon juice when washing your hair to diminish shine.
Conclusion:
Lemon juice appears to have numerous beauty benefits other than just being a tasty fruit packed with vitamin C. You can use it along with other beauty products or skin care treatment routines for these added benefits. However, skip it if you have open skin or chapped lips because it can cause inflammation or irritation. Also, be cautious when working with lemon juice on your face because it can cause irritation if it gets into contact with your eyes. Have a beautiful and flawless skin with lemons!
