Oily skin is a situation where excess fats and oils accumulate on the surface of the skin, therefore, making the skin shiny. It occurs due to hormonal changes during puberty, choice of diet and excess stress.
Most ladies experience oily skin during menstruation, pregnancy and when they take birth control pills. It causes blind pimples and other skin irritation, but its advantage is that less wrinkles will occur as one is aging than dry or normal skin.
Excess oils occur when sebaceous glands produce excess sebum. This condition has become a source of stress to many to a point where most opt for expensive chemicals that can later cause regrets. However, there is no need for that because there are very many natural ways to deal with oily skin. These 7 ways include:
-
Using grated apple
Apple is a fruit that contains malic acid that helps to get rid of dead skin cells and absorbs excess fats from the surface of the skin. ½ an apple is grated then the resulting substance is placed on the skin for about 15 minutes after which the skin is washed with tepid water. After this, a mixture of one teaspoon of each: yogurt, apple, and lemon juice, is applied on the skin for another 15 minutes and then the face is cleansed with cool water.
-
Using yogurt
Yogurt is a milk product that contains lactic acid. Just like Apple, it removes dead cells on the skin and absorbs excess oils from the skin. A tablespoon of yogurt is rubbed on the face gently and left for 15 minutes then thereafter cleaned with cold water. Alternatively, a mixture of yogurt and oatmeal powder can be used but warm water is used to do the final cleaning. This method is more effective when it is applied on a daily basis.
-
Rubbing the skin with tomatoes
Tomato is the most readily available food substance that contains acids which helps to get rid of excess oils from the skin surface. It also contains vitamin C which assists to remove any spots on the skin. The tomato is cut, then the inner part is rubbed gently on the skin then it is left for 15 minutes for the juice to affect healing. It is then washed with cold water and oil is applied to moisturize. A mixture of tomato juice and honey can equally serve the same purpose.
-
Avoiding washing your face too frequent
Most people tend to think that washing the face more frequent makes it more healthy and clean. On the contrary, washing the face a number of times makes it dry and therefore stimulating production of oil by the skin which makes it even oilier. Therefore it is recommended for you to wash your face two times a day that is; in the morning when you wake up and before sleeping.
-
Using the right temperature of water to wash your skin
Hot water dissolves accumulated oil easily than cold water and, therefore, it is the most recommended. This makes it easy to remove all the excess oils on the skin. After washing your face with hot water, sprinkle cold water on it to tighten the skin. This technique should be applied on a regular basis.
-
Using egg whites
Egg whites are rich in vitamin A that helps to remove sunspots on skin making the skin have an even color complexion. Most importantly, it also helps dry-oily skin, therefore reducing the shiny nature. One egg white is applied on the skin then left to dry, after which it is cleaned with warm water. A mixture of lemon juice and one egg white is then applied to the face then left for 15 minutes then washed with warm water. This will ensure the skin is left tight. This should be repeated thrice a week.
-
Using lemon juice
The citric acid in the lemon juice acts as an astringent. Lemon makes the skin lighter by removing any spots. A mixture of one tablespoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of water is applied to the face using cotton wool then rinsed with warm water after ten minutes. Oil is then applied to moisturize. It is recommended that this is done on a daily basis, and honey can be used in place of water.
As much as everyone would want to have healthy skin, it is difficult to achieve when one has to combat oily skin. However oily skin is no longer a barrier. The methods elaborated above will help you overcome it. There are also other ways that include considering the kind of soap and oils that you use since many can make the skin dry causing the production of more oil in the body.
