Easy Paleo Hamburger Pie, Crust Free and Low Carb Pin

Easy Paleo Crust Free Hamburger Pie is an easy to prepare, grain-free, low carb and crust-free meat pie that is savory and full of flavor.

This recipe is similar to my other hamburger pie recipes but if crust free and much easier to prepare with fewer ingredients. So, you can have this one in the oven fairly quickly.

My family liked the crust free, easy version as much as the one with the crust. I have been really trying to make it easier to prepare, budget-friendly recipes that the kids will still love.

The recipe is dairy-free but if you can have dairy, then add some optional grated cheese to the top of the pie when it comes out of the oven to make it a cheeseburger pie.

This pie is nut-free as well but has a nut meal option for people that can't tolerate flax meal. My picky eaters had a second helping and were sad when it was gone.

This looks great; can't wait to try it! I think I will use gelatin instead of flax meal. One question though - how is that the egg mixture actually stays on top vs sinking through all the spaces between the ground meat?

Andrew, some of the mixture does go though the pie and some stays and rises to the top of the pie. It helps hold the pie together and keeps it from falling apart.

This is one of a handful of recipes I have made multiple times! I like the simple ingredient list, I almost always have everything in my pantry, or can easily substitute if I don't, I've subbed tomatillo salsa for the tomato sauce and that was a fun change!

This is definitely a keeper! The garlic cloves, garlic powder and Italian seasoning along with the salt gave it just the right flavor. I also added steamed zucchini slices on top of the meat mixture before pouring the egg topping over it. Delicious and filling 🙂

I made this yesterday night. Sadly, it was nothing special. My fiance wasn't impressed either. He found the Italian spice weird and overpowering in it. He said "you don't put Italian spice in cheeseburgers" It's an ok starting point, but we will keep tweaking it to get out HG cheeseburger pie.

Judith, you don't need to add the Italian seasoning to the recipe if you don't like it. It is good without it, and also many people enjoy using taco seasoning in it instead for a taco pie.

I know your intent was to make it crust free but could it be made in a pie crust? And of so, so you think you would bake the crust ahead of time and then make and bake the meat pie?

Ali, I used to make this in a frozen pie crust and it was so good like that. Now that I have Celiac, I make my own gluten free pie crust and I put the ingredients right into the raw pie crust and bake. It is just extra work to make the pie crust. If you don't have food allergies or dietary restrictions you can use a pre-made pie crust. Here is the link to the same recipe with a gluten free low carb pie crust recipe: http://beautyandthefoodie.com/hamburger-pie/

Eliene, the original recipe before all my dietary restrictions, I used about 1/2 cup bread crumbs. I don't think flour would work as well.

My husband and I both enjoy this great recipe, thanks! I usually add some homemade or no sugar ketchup to the meat mix. Fresh tomato slices and/or bacon on top of the meat mix (place on top of meat, then pour egg) is also tasty! We usually have original recipe ingredients on hand and then substitute add-ins according to what is in the pantry. Thanks again!

Hi Rebi, you can use egg whites and it works as well as whole egg. You can add the cheese before or after baking, as I have done both. I usually add some to the crust, bake and then add a little more after baking. I used to add only before baking, but then I forgot once, and added it after, and it was good.

Kelly, I haven't tried this yet, but I heard you can replace the tomato purée with roasted red pepper puree. You would roast the red bell peppers in the oven. Then once they are done and cooled, puree them in a blander or food processor.

I looked in my nutrition data file in my computer software, and I plugged in a couple variations for you: recipe as directed with sea salt and cheese included: 296 mg per slice. Recipe with cheese but without the sea salt: 186mg per slice. Recipe without cheese or sea salt: 142 mg per slice. Hope that helps.

I'm making it right now. Ground turkey, 3 tbls homemade taco seasoning, 8 oz can of tomato sauce, handful of dehydrated mixed color diced bell pepper and onions. Smells fantastic! I think I'll add some shredded Monterey jack cheese to the top when I bake it. Serve it up with some sour cream, diced avocado, chopped fresh tomatoes, and shredded lettuce.
