This article and recipe will show the benefits of Keto Cheese Puffs, ingredients and variations, preparation methods, and how to store them, ensuring they stay fresh and crunchy for as long as possible.

Why you should make Keto Crunchy Cheese Puffs

1. Low in Carbohydrates

As the name suggests, Keto Cheese Puffs contain a minimal amount of carbs, making them an excellent snack option for those on a low-carb or ketogenic diet.

Consuming low-carb snacks can help maintain stable blood sugar levels, reduce hunger pangs, and assist in weight loss goals.

2. High in Protein and Healthy Fats

Keto Cheese Puffs are high in protein and healthy fats, which are essential macronutrients for those following a ketogenic diet.

Protein helps build and maintain muscle mass, while healthy fats support brain function and hormone production.

3. Gluten-Free

For individuals with gluten sensitivities or those looking to eliminate grains from their diet, Keto Cheese Puffs are a perfect option.

They are made entirely from cheese an cheese powder, making them naturally gluten-free. However, if you're Celiac, then be sure to carefully check ingredients on all cheese powders.

4. Easy to Make

One of the best aspects of Keto Cheese Puffs is their simplicity. With just two ingredients and minimal preparation, it's easy to make a batch of these delicious snacks to enjoy throughout the week. You will need to plan ahead to make these, however, because the drying process takes 24 hours.

Eating these snacks will leave you with those cheesy dust fingers you have been missing, lol.

Instructions

Slicing cheese to make cheese puffs.

Cut the cheddar cheese block into about 48 square pieces about ⅛ to ¼ of an inch thick. Arrange cheese on a baking tray about ¼ of an inch apart.

Covering the cheese tray.

Cover the tray and cheese with paper towels.

Covering the cheese puffs.

then cover the paper towel with a cheesecloth or kitchen towel. Let it rest undisturbed at room temperature for 24 hours to dry out the cheese (don’t skip this step or it won't work).

Blotting the cheese.

Once the cheese is dry and hard, remove the towel and paper towels and blot any grease off the cheese with a paper towel. Preheat oven to 400℉ (200℃).

Baking the cheese.Pin

Bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until cheese squares puff up. Remove from the oven and let cool for 3 minutes. Lightly blot any excess grease from the cheese puffs.

Coating the puffs in cheese powder.

In a zippered freezer bag or sandwich bag add the cheddar cheese powder. Add the puffed cheese to the bag.

Shaking the bag.

Zip the bag closed, and shake to coat it with the cheese powder.

Remove the coated cheese puffs from the bag and place them into a clean zippered bag. Serve. Any leftover cheese puffs should be stored in the zippered bag at room temperature.

Hint: Allow the cheese puffs to cool before shaking in the cheese powder & before storing. You can add an anti-humidity food packet to keep them fresh and crisp in humid weather.

Variations

  • Spicy - add extra flavor to your Keto Cheese Puffs; consider adding spices to the cheese powder, such as chili powder, onion powder, or chili lime powder for a hot or spicy cheese puff.

Equipment

Baking Trays

Paper Towels and KitchenTowel

Storage

Store the puffs in an airtight container or zippered bag at room temperature for up to 3 days.

If you live in a humid environment, consider adding an anti-humidity food packet to the bag when storing.

I save the little white anti-humidity packs from other packaged foods and use them in the zippered bag with the cheese puffs as it is very humid where I live.

FAQ

Can I use other types of cheese?

Yes, you can use Jack cheese or white cheddar instead of sharp cheddar. The flavor will be different and milder, however.

Is there a different kind of cheese powder that I could use?

Yes, you can also use white cheddar cheese powder. The flavor will be slightly different.

Sounds like a delicious and guilt-free snack! I love that they are made with only two ingredients and the fact that they are coated in a cheesy powder also sounds amazing – I can imagine them being very similar to Cheetos or Cheez-Its. I'm so interested in trying these snacks!!
